5 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Apocalypse Could Actually Happen

Zombie Apocalypse

As awareness of the coming tides of darkness spreads, so do logical and scientific studies which support what we have known all along.  A zombie outbreak in the future is not avoidable.  There will be no Nobel award for a clever movie about how to reverse the effects of a zombie outbreak.  All that we have, all that we must cling to, is the knowledge available and our desire to survive at all costs.

Thanks to Kevin for pointing us toward a wonderfully prepared study by David Wong and TESloth, who offer up “5 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Apocalypse Could Actually Happen“.

Undead Weather

Believe it or not, scientists in Australia have recently released a study regarding weather conditions during an outbreak.

The weather is reported to take on characteristics of pre-tornado weather.  The sky is green, though not as vivid as that of pre-tornado weather.  There is an odd calm to the wind.  One unique, and controversial, characteristic released, is one that deals with a sense that you might not have considered when thinking of an outbreak.  That sense is smell.  After pouring over documented cases of outbreaks and interviewing survivors who were willing to participate in the study, scientists also believe that in addition to a greenish sky, oddly calm wind conditions, that there is also a unique smell associated with an outbreak.  The smell has only been related to that of food burning in the kitchen.

“It is an odd comparision, we understand,” stated one of the scientists, “yet, after our interviews we found this to be consistent across the board of those who survived an outbreak.  The smell can be compared to something burning on the stove.  It is not said to be overpowering, but it is quite noticable.”  When asked about the possible cause of the smell, the scientists would not speculate.  They did however feel that it centered around the brain being reactivated and the body moving after being dead.

Friends and Family

One of the many problems you’ll encounter when dealing with zombies is having your friends and families turned in to the walking dead. You all know what this means, having to deal with killing their zombie self. Now it’s all good and well to say you could manage this horrible situation but maybe you can’t bring yourself to do it, or you think you can kill them easily but freeze at the last second, or you might try to keep them in the garden shed to play computer games with. If you can’t bring your self to kill your friends or family then you better be in a position to run away, if you’re barricaded in to safe house with them and you don’t kill them then you’re good as dead. If you can kill them then that also leaves problems. Firstly if it’s near the start of an outbreak then you don’t know if they are a zombie. For instance if you don’t know there’s been an outbreak then you might see your friend stumbling towards you covered in blood, your first instinct should be to help them, of course when you do this you get bitten and that’s you finished. Or you see them getting bitten, then what? Do you kill them as soon as you see it happening or wait until they turn?

There are difficult situations you get in to and you’ll more than likely be in more than one, most people I meet say they could easily kill a loved one if they turn in to a zombie, but it’s not as easy and just shooting them or cleaving a machete into their skull. There are situations you need to be ready for.

Okay so let’s say you can easily kill your friend, and you’re all in a safe house so you can take your time about it. You raise a gun to their head, say your sorry but there’s no other way. They may have other idea’s, and then you’ve got a friend of yours aiming a gun to your head, or another of your friends who just can’t accept that one of their friends is essentially dead and another of their friends is aiming a gun at them. How many films have you seen where survivors are put in the same situation and everything goes wrong.

The purpose of this is to get you to think, what seems to be a situation that would be easily “fixed” has so many things that can go wrong, this is true with every situation when you add zombies. And these are the people you can trust; when you’ve got strangers you’ve just met there are more problems. Remember you may handle situations well but will other people?
Keep one eye on zombies and another on your friends.

Zombie Dawn

We recently got word from a fellow Zombie activist, William, about a project he has been working on entitled Zombie Dawn.  William is dedicated to zombie awareness and his project is a tribute to his efforts.  We salute you, William, and embrace another brother in the fight against the living dead.
