I only read about the first 50 posts so if what I am about to say has been addressed then thanks for reading. I personally believe that the shot fun should only be used as a tool. It is great for bird hunting (don't expect to have McDonald's when zeds come), not to mention for breaching locked buildings and rooms such as warehouses and places with potential supplies. So keeping something like. Mossberg 500A tactical with a couple hundred rounds between you and a group is a good idea. It is a light shot gun with a decent capacity and is easy to maintain. The only time I would use it as a weapon is to facilitate an escape route or to buy some time.

As for my choice of weapons, my side arm is an XDm .40 with a rod laser. The round is fairly common and is lighter than a .45 but has more punch than a 9mm. I personally hate the Berreta M9 pistol. From my experience, it is less accurate and jumps more than other pistols that I have used. As for a rifle, the AR15 is nice due to available parts, easy modification, range, mobility, and available ammo. The downfall is that it requires more TLC and the round is not as worldly available (outside of the US). The AK47 is a good rifle because of the larger round (more damage/stopping power, less expensive, less moving parts, easy cleaning, less jams in non-ideal conditions (dust, dirt, mud, moister ect.) and the round is more widely used in the world and it can be used in hunting rifles chambered for it. The draw backs are that the parts are not as common as the AR15, less accurate at longer ranges (200m+), more ammo weight. All in all I would be confident with either weapon in CQC and midrange scenarios.

The thing about Z-day is that the lone wolf scenario would not work and hopefully you all have close friends that have built an arsenal and plan around working as a team. So having more specific roles to spread the load would increase your chances of survival.

I agree and disagree

First, a shotgun is powerfull kill zombies (in the head) why would I aim to the chest??? Remember that most media showed us that shotguns fire like sprays

But, it would be silly to trust just in a shotgun, anybody has considered where will you get more ammo??? Remember, fast zombies show no mercy or pity and will kill you, slow zombies are like ants; they will keep coming (unless you escape or manage to kill 'em all) A handgun or SMG could be a good idea. Also, some bait wouldn't be bad idea

Yeah, the may have high recoil, slow reload time, but with practice (and a backup partner) you should be able to survive until you die, get eaten or do something stupid

Although this discussion is interesting, especially about the merits of civilian weapons, come zombie outbreak, you should be looking to those of us in the military to help out with supply/survival. My company has access to AA-12s, M-39 EMRs, M1014s, thermite grenades, etc.

You're also going to need people to train the unlearned in the art of using said weaponry.

Heh, you can totally get an AR-15 at Wal-Mart now. My local Wal-Mart (Moses Lake. Store 2007) carries the Bushmaster AR-15 Carbine model with pull out stock. They also have another type of AR with the MOE handguard, looks like it's full length or Mid-length.

Sorry bud, but it looks like ill be taking you out with a 00 buck shot since you decided to aim with you AR-15 (a single projectile). apparently you have never shot at something that is trying to take your life. adrenaline is pumping and your barrel movement increases. sure reload time is slower but it only takes one shot per zombie. the answer is a saga 12 ga. shotgun... magazine fed, semi-auto, lightweight 16.5 in barrel, with low recoil. best of luck to you and your 30 minutes of survival.

ok 1st of all you dont have a fuckin flamerthrower unless you want to die. you have a shotgun, a 9mm (desinded for penetration) if possible a rifle. 3rd you stay inside in a attic with a months worth of cinnimon buns. whys that? zombies need to feed to... the virus will die if they cant feed like every other living thing. so instead of playing the hero stay inside... yes the rush of aderiline would probaly make you think oh shit i need to get out and get guns and sit in a store smoking cigarettes to relax.

Consider this.

The shotgun makes a load bang. The noise to shot ratio is horrible. Yeah you kill 1-2 zombies directly in front of you, but you've just alerted every zombie within a mile of your presence.

Good luck with that.

Best weapon for silent undead kills:

100 lb+(string) Crossbow with a scope.

Best weapon for a small war against zombies:

Above mentioned assault rifle, or just about any rifle with a minimum 15 round magazine.

Also, there are assault rifles with silencers, which will effectiveness to your mayhem.

This is an interesting discussion. The AA-12 can carry a 32 round drum but that would become heavy in a flight scenario. Though a m4 is recommended, the stupid ordnance laws in the USA would prevent you from getting either if push came to shove. For a distance weapon, a .22 semi auto breech loader with sufficient extra clips would be realistic as far as procurement went. It has no real stopping power, but with a scope, head shots would be relatively easy. The ammo is light weight so one thousand rounds could be easily carried. For close in or quiet work, a modified Naginata or a sharpened piece of steel would be best. of course, the main objective of surviving such an outbreak is to get the hell out of the urban areas since they would have the most zombies by default.
