Screw Wal-Mart (or the UK equivalent). Staying close to a population centre in the middle of an outbreak? Nosiree. I'm staying in the 100+ year old house with small windows and thick walls, a decent distance from the nearest village and miles from the nearest town. I'm going to board up the windows, keep supplies on the top floor, replace the staircases with retractable ladders, institute a guard tower system, and then forget all about the zombie threat and start trying to make a sustainable community. It'll be great, as long as it doesn't go all Lord of the Flies on us. That's what I'm really worried about.

And if we lose the house, we can always fall back to the nuclear bunker up the road. Less sustainable, but okay for a last stand!

You should already have a location plotted out, preferably a two story building with one stairway up that can be broken, along with an elevator or a controlled access point.

Scope out the surrounding location once your desired defense point is decided, make sure locations are ideal. drug stores, grocery stores, home and construction supplies, etc etc.

Have enough provisions stalked up and ready to go with your survival kits(if you don't know/have what I'm taking about read- Zombie survival guide: complete protection from the living dead)
and then get back to the rest of this. After the survival gear is ready, contacting your 'team' should be the next step.(you should already have the members of said party informed and geared similar to what you yourself have gathered.) Once this is done, meet up at your destination. (good thing to keep in mind, is plotting out a route which organizes everyone into a whole as soon as possible.) traveling in numbers is bad for the health, but traveling alone is much much worse.

Once you've gained the high ground and everything is set up nicely within your position, you can slowly create a perimeter and make pocket runs to the closest drug/gun and grocery store possible.(go to the gun store closest by if you don't have one in your survival kits, but you should be prepared for this!.)

Long term provisioning is beneficial the first few runs but you want to try getting your hands on all kinds of drugs as much as possible. Medical substances will be the new currency of the zombie apocalypse. They say those who will control the insulin will control the world in such a future. (diabetic slaves)

One of the keys to survival in such an environment is always being ahead of the game. You need to think ten moves up in every direction and be able to use what you have and can gain to your overall benefit and hopefully, survival.

Its been mentioned that perishable food items like meats, fruits and vegetables could be a problem after refrigeration goes out. Not so!

Most superstores carry food dehydrators. With salt and spices from the grocery its a simple matter of drying thoes rations out with minimal drain on your generators fuel supply. Even without a generator, weather may make it possible to sun dry foods on the roof, o is nothing else its always possible to improvise a smoker of some sort.

Once you have that, you'll be sitting pretty on a nice stash of jerky and dried fruits.

I was just thinking that people mat not have the full scope on the types of "zombies" there could be the slow of body the slow of mind the weak the fast body the thinkers the unusually strong or agile ones that have speech ones that seem uninfected the ones that have over developed hearing or smell ones that use tools ones that stay out of light ect....... I was also thinking that this could be spread in a number of ways sex for example or just kissing air born can it be spread to animals or flys is it a gas the infected give off or just skin contact or virus do you need to be infected or will the dead all simply rise is it an act of man nature or god if it is an ant of man then there is a cure if it is an act of nature then it will run its course if it is an act of god .......who can say what then but the point is all the best planes can be ruined easy enough have an idea use what you have at your disposal and allow for immediate change

it takes just about one year for a body to decompose when left exposed to the elements that means no more meat to operate the bone so it may take a matter of months for it to spread and resist containment after one year the first of them will no longer be a threat but there is no way to know when the latest victim is taken so I think it is wise to fortify your sanctuary with two or more years worth of supplys for each person

Assuming that someone would eventually come rescue those inside the shopping centre the plan isn't all that bad; but in a full scale zombie apocalypse people need to learn to adapt themselves to be able to live and thrive under the threat of the zombie invasion.

If you're going to barricade yourself somewhere you want it to be as far away from a major city as possible. Major cities mean a large population; and a large population means a lot of undead to deal with.

The resources inside the superstore are all well and good, but eventually they will run out. Eventually the store will run out of food and the amount of zombies waiting outside by that point could be tremendous.

In the event of a worldwide zombie outbreak you would want to secure an area away from a major city that can be easily defended, but also a place where you could easily grow your own food and get rid of waste. A superstore full of people locked in Wal-Mart with a toilet that doesn't work will result in a lot of shit. And I mean that literally folks.

Renewable resources and entertainment are the main issue here. If the human race is going to survive you need to be able to build a self sustaining community with little or no risk of zombies reaching them. Of course, that's easier said than done; but these are the goals we must strive towards if the human race is to outlive such a catastophe.

Us geeks must also be prepared to lead. We are pretty much the only ones who will know what to do when the Zombie Apocalypse happens, and it'll be up to us to organize the survivors. Although the best course of action is still to ditch everyone except your loved ones. And even they may fall. Be ready for mercy kills.

My plan is to head for the marina, grab a boat and sail to the Isle of Wight or the Channel Islands off the coast of France if I can make it. Unfortunately, at the moment my plan is severely flawed. First of all I have no clue how to sail, or steal a boat for that matter. Secondly there are two lock gateways between the marina and the open seas. Thirdly, I would have to enter the narrow winding streets that make up the commercial centre to stock up on supplies. Luckily they are not 5 minutes from the marina, which is of course at the same time another downside, being so close to a bazillion people running around screaming and dying and turning. Back-up plan is just to get as far away from civilization as humanly possible. And then some, cuz zombies ain't human.

The dilemma of whether or not to go to a super-store is moot, seeing as we have none here.

What about using a pawn shop as a base of operations? It may lack food, but they usually have an extensive collection of firearms, ammunition, tools, and other misc items that could make the difference between survival or a gory end.
Most of the pawn shops in my area have bulletproof shatter resistant glass installed with a wire grill/bars on the outside.
Although I personally believe in remaining mobile in the event of a zombie infestation. Remaining mobile eliminates the complacency that comes with staying in one location for an extended period of time.
