It might seem a bit odd, but my plan includes heading down to the SW end of my state. It's pretty flat wide expanses of farmland which is rather sparsly populated. The northern half of the state is woodland with a good amount of game, but when things go bad that's where every would be survivalist will be heading likely with the Zed nipping at there heels the whole way. I really do love the north woods, and I'm more framiliar with the area but it's just not as safe.

The first line of defense will be a wide open expance which can be watched over easily from a lookout on a roof, silo or even an old gravity fed gas tank for at least a mile in any direction. The fields furthest from the house will be low lying crops, like soy. Closer up you'd have the corn grown in small sections with 20 foot paths between them. This is so, that it's easier to track the zeds movements if they get that far.

A simple barracade would initially be built around the house eventually being built into stone and dirt ramparts, that can also be the main artery for irragation ditches. The lower level windows would need to be sealed with brick, leaving maybe gun ports here and there. The doors would then be replaced by heavy fire doors with a reinforced frame. Since alot of these far houses have the outside cellar door, that would have to be either sealed, replaced with heavier doors or a second door put into place.

Although this may seem like a fortress the big part of this system is that the open expanse allows for wide open escape if there's just to damn maney of the dead out there to deal with. Given around 10+ people it would allow the house to be defended from upto a couple hundred zombies at a time with the ditch and rampart functioning as a shooting gallery or even the use of spears if needed and if or when they get past those there is still the house to fall back to if things aren't hopeless.

Cruise ships and long range naval vessels are the best bet really if you're going to sea. The store a cruise ship can hold are immense and the same goes for those naval vessels gotta remember they are designed to hold in excess of 1,000 people at any given time and depending on the ship you could have 1 to 3 months worth of food on board. The naval stuff is a little better due to the nuclear capabilities of the engines, have power and fuel for 10 years on one of those without any issues. Same goes for the large scale nuclear submarines as well.

Personally I think I'd head for the army base in Tacoma - grab a Stryker (majority of the stryker units in the US army are stationed there) and head for the naval base on the otherside of puget sound. Plus there are all the ferry stations here which a ferry isn't great for survival but it gives you a safe platform for a day or two, plus you could head for one of the islands in the sound to hold up and defend yourself.

The aircraft carrier is a great idea. The island might not be as it can provide a false sense of security and zombies can survive without oxygen, and so you might have a few that walk the ocean floor till they run into you, and it only takes one to start an outbreak. As for the RV, RVs require lots of gas, a difficult to find commodity in zombie outbreak situations, and may be too large or cumbersome to maneuver in tight areas, especially if armored. Plus they are top heavy, so if you are backed into a corner and enough zombies surround the vehicle, they may topple it. The best vehicle in case of zombie attack is probably the bicycle, it requires no gas, is highly mobile, can get in or out of tight situations, and honestly, against zombies the speed of a car is hardly necessary. Remember, it isn't nearly so good to be able to survive being surrounded as it is to avoid being surrounded. An RV seems to be an awkward choice, as when it comes to zombies, you really need to choose whether you are going for mobility or going to bunker down.

I wouldn't pick a mall, too many unbarricadable entrances as well as unprepared civilians (read: zombie food). I would head to the nearest Wallmart or Homedepot. If you live near ones that are large enough, they will probably carry quick drying cement, perfect for barricading entrances, and my local home depot carries seeds and fertilizer as well, which could help in long term zombie situations (farm on the roof, etc.).

i agree finding a good sized island that can support a number of people is definitely the place to go. i was thinking it would be boracay island in the philippines. in that way, even if i have to become a zombie, i will be in the best beach in the world

Me I'll be driving A armored RV. my first stop would be A army base for guns, K rashions that will last for years. sence I know how to fly a helicopter I well fly to an aircraft carrier i'll also save people train them to fly then go on raiding missions for supplies, medical ,ammunition.
If I can find A fairly good sized island and no sign of raving dead walking around i'll put survivors on the Island too start up a new base for people to live some what peacefully thiers always a chance a person will get bitten and hide it tell there found out or died and turned.
If this can not come ture then I'll gust become a wonder in a armored vehicle.

The Sangre de Cristo Range. Quite a ways away from me, but it`s isolated, rugged territory, and I know it like the back of my hand.

I'm going back to my house because it belongs to me and no undead army is going to take it away. Malls are for teenaged girls. Either go home or go to a pub AND BE A MAN EITHER WAY.

Brian: we are happy to help support zombie projects. While we do not plan to offer movie reviews and every latest zombie release (probably because the super cool folks at ZRCalready have that covered), we want to open the doors more to "press releases".
