The universal zombie symbol is a great idea. I would like to see an agreed upon design for distribution – perhaps more stickers, t-shirts, etc. I also think one of the banners for the site, the “look dead” one with the bloody handprints, would be good for mass distribution as well. i looked for a shirt in the shop, but couldn’t find one. as the younger generation seems to go for t-shirts and superficial advertising trends, a mass notification campaign may help address the high risk level for that demongraphic being wiped out in the coming zombie apocalypse due to their inane obsessions with inconsequential and distracting nonsense like twitter and fallout boy. they should be focusing on training to fight the impending hordes of undead, not watching reality television.

Hmmm, creating a unique, understandable sign sounds like a great idea. I think I’ll take a stab at it, have to pick my brains for a minute.

The lost zombies stickers are pretty sweet though.

Well, if there has been a major zombie outbreak the head on the pike should be self-evident.

Tradition dictates that you put the tip of the pike through the left eye socket for undead and the right eye socket for the decapitated heads of non-undead opponents (of course, that’s archaic since we no longer decapitate prisoners or corpses in warfare, but the rule was established in the Byzantine Empire under Justinian so what do you expect?). If others have failed to educate themselves on the etiquette of warfare against the undead I am not responsible for their ignorance.

Well, yeah, a universal warning sign is definitely a luxury but I see stocking up on some now being quite helpful in the early days of an outbreak. Plus, when the printers stop running and materials are scarce, the universal sign will have been in the minds of everyone from the early days and any homemade signs from then on out will likely be recognized as crude imitations of the official, universal sign for ZOMBIE.

How does a head on a pike work? Especially after a few weeks? That only tells me that people in this area might eventually cut off your head and stick it on a pike.

A universal zombie sign cannot contain any language or country specific symbols. It needs to combine universal imagery. The circle with a line through it is pretty universal, as is biohazard. The skull needs to have some human or “live” imagery to distinguish it from the entire skull which just means death. I’d like to know a little more than just “death” I want to everyone to recognize “potential zombie death”!

a warning lable sounds cool but it will happen to soon so the best thing you will see is spary paint of a skull and cross bones or my favorite ALIVE INSIDE

Warning labels? What’s next, a little yellow diamond saying “Zombies on Board?” Our ancestors just took the head of the undead and stuck it on a pole. Low tech, effective, attention getting, and informative. No print shop required (and how will the presses run once the power is off?). Does ANYONE on this site study history? You’d think the undead were something new. No one learns from history, so we are doomed to repeat it over and over again.
I know some will worry about contamination as they mount the head on the pole. If you are drinking enough colloidal silver you have nothing to fear. Wash up with a little holy water if you must or if your immune system is on the puny side (though if that’s the case you won’t be around long anyway, so really, what’s the point?).

I like the previous ideas but I was thinking something more explicit would be better such as a large Z over the bio hazard symbol or a stylized scull and cross bones where the scull has a arm in its mouth. I was also thinking maybe a normal human looking face part of the skin over one eye gone and the opposite cheek missing and the teeth underneath showing. Ive been trying to think up a symbol that would be simple, viserle(sp) and explicit. We could always go with a profile of a head missing a cheek and a speech bubble saying “BRAINS”. Though to me that seems too cartoonish and doesn’t neccessarilycover all possible types of zombies
