Counting What Really Matters

While it is fine to talk about you would do and what you would use during the coming apocalypse it does you no good if your just flapping your lips and never train or are not even familiar with your weapons of choice.
It has been brought up countless times the weapons that we would use in the battle against the undead, be it swords to tanks, but how many out there have their weapons of choice at hand and ready to go. How many train with them on a regular basis and those who do train how long have they been doing so? The fact of the matter the only way to be proficient and useful with your weapon of choice is to be not just have an idea of how the weapon is used. Reading about the weapons means you are nothing more than an informed amateur. One must also be not just familiar with the weapon but be intimately so. This does not come over night and even with the simplest weapon it takes years of practice to become proficient and decades to master.
So I open the discussion with these questions:
- What are your weapons of choice? Yes weapons, not just your primary weapons but backups as well.
- Do you have these weapons readily available? If not, revise your above post. Weapons that you would like to have are no use when you need them.
- How often do your train with them?
- How long have you been training with them?
- Lastly, are you ready for the zombie apocalypse? Be honest.
Stay safe. Stay informed. Stay alive.

I’m not going to go very much in-depth on this issue for lack of time, that being said:
1: my primary weapon/asset would be my own body, any secondary weapon would just be to knock down/back a Z while I escape.(because if you cant escape you’re done for anyway)
2. well I sure hope it’s available…
3. fairly often.
4. my whole life.
5. Honestly…I could do with some more conditioning but I’d make it.

1) What are your weapons of choice? Yes weapons, not just your primary weapons but backups as well.
1) Obscurity is the best defence, even the best equipped person can’t fight off an entire world full of the living dead. That means getting ready to live on cold canned goods if you can’t risk fire. There’s no way I could readily get my hands on a firearm, since they’re so heavily controlled in the UK (bet this is the first time anyone’s admitted that on a Zombie blog) so that’s as near as makes no difference not an option for defence. Without a massive number of weapons this hurts my usefulness in a fight and hiding is the best option.
The best weapon I have is my skills, I’m a licenced radio operator and that experience with communications devices (even home made ones) is a very useful skill when the world goes back to the stone age with nothing better than shouting available. Long range communications (the Internet will become increasingly patchy as the modern world is not maintained properly) will be crucial for anyone wanting to rise beyond subsistence foragers and being skilled with medium tech communications will suddenly become a hugely marketable skill.
2) No weapons but part of my licence involves volunteering to provide communications in disaster situations, so I have a packed bag of equipment just in case it’s required.
3) Most of the time, it’s a great hobby for starters and it’s something that you can only really learn by doing.
4) I’ve been working on my technical skills since I started school, that’s because I enjoy it but it’s also useful to know quite as much as you pick up about electronic engineering.
5) Of course I’m not, don’t be ridiculous.

I have a carbon spring steel katana (from Chenessinc.com) in my bedroom and I have trained in kendo for two years. I practice twice a week.
As backup: I have a side-handle police-baton in my car. I’ve done kickboxing, so I plan on using it more for punching than wacking.
So yes, I am ready.
Angryvikingman on 18 Dec 2008 at 6:56 pm #
1. I have a Stag Arms AR-15 with a red dot fast aquisition scope, and a 16 power mil-dot scope for when I need to reach out and touch someone. And ten 30 round mags for it. My back ups are my pair of walther p22s, and my 18 inch maverick model 88 mossberg 12 gauge pump shotgun with pistol grip and over folding stock. I have hundreds of .223 rounds, thousands of .22lr rounds, and several hundred shotgun rounds. I also have several swords and machetes. I have several other firearms, but I prefer the ones I have listed.
2. I have my weapons readily available at my home and carry at least one with me as much as possible.
3. I shoot usually at least once a week and I fire several hundred rounds every time I go shooting.
4. I’ve been shooting since I was 4. My father bought me a rifle before I was even borne. I’ve been shooting frequently ever since I could hold a gun.
5. I could use some more ammo, maybe some more mags, and a larger supply of preserved food, but I have all of the gear and experience needed to survive. I’d probably make it a year past Z-day, prehaps longer if I don’t go insane. If I found some other survivors and sources of ammo and food, then perhaps I could survive indefinately.

Suppose the zombie apocalypse strikes while you’re at the airport waiting to board a plane? Your first weapon should be your critical thinking skills, because, unless you live and work at the local army surplus store or are a professional soldier, you won’t have your weapon of choice handy all of the time. I am constantly looking around myself wherever I am and thinking…”hmmm…shopping cart…how can I use that to my advantage if he guy next to be turns out to be a zombie?” Am I ready? No…but I’ll improvise.
3ID on 18 Dec 2008 at 8:22 pm #
1Well that’s a hard choice I would go with my AR since I have had the most training on it since I use the same weapon in the Military. So I am fairly proficient at my rifle its a Rock River Tactical with a Sure Fire Free float rail and an Aimpoint my other is a Sig Sauer .45 acp as a secondary. Also I have an FAL thats great for longer shots I realy like it and it would be my next go to weapon, then I have an AK 47, and A 12GA mossberg 590 also a snub noise .357 and a two .22 Rilfes.
2 always
3 Wow I train a lot when I am at the base or at home never can have to much training
4 For a couple of years cant say for sure.
5 I would say yes, I would like more ammo but hell want can you do. No matter how much you get it is still never enough.

I never plan to be on a plane. So I don’t think that’ll be a problem.

1. My primary weapon of choice is my quick thinking and cool head. I would then use these to get home from wherever I am and retreive my CZ 750 sniper rifle (great for staying at a safe distance), and my dual .50 desert eagles.
2. The obove weapons are readily availible in my home, if i cannot get home or my family are already zombies then i would make my way to my Gun Dealer, Or my Rifle Range (because i know the strong room is full of guns)
3. I train a minimum of twice a week, and i know my weapons better than i know myself.
4. Since i have been old enough to hold a FAC (FireArms Certificate)
5. I feel I am ready. Ive been praying for Z-Day for a very long time, and have spent countless nights out with friends planning the days and weeks that would ensue. Also my dad works at the local museum which just so happens to be a fort XD so i could easily get hold of the keys ;)

What are your weapons of choice? Yes weapons, not just your primary weapons but backups as well.
Well, not much in the way of weapons around the house. I have a modest collection of primarly older firearms.
Mosin-Nagant 1891/30 - 7.62×54R
Lee-Enfield No4 Mk 1 - .303
Marlin 60 - .22
NEF Pardner Single Shot - 12ga
Mossberg 500 - 12ga
FEG PA-63 - 9×18
I suppose when it comes down to it, I’d be carrying my MN 91/30 along with my PA-63 as a sidearm. I’ve got about 60 rounds loaded in ammo pouches along with about another 100 or so loaded up in a bandoleer. The PA-63 is loaded up with two magazines of gold dot hollow points. I like my other arms, but those two are the ones I feel the most confident with.
Do you have these weapons readily available? If not, revise your above post. Weapons that you would like to have are no use when you need them.
Loaded and running hot most times. It changes when they’re being cleaned.
How often do your train with them?
Ideally once a week for a few hours. Usually ends up about once every two weeks for about 5 or so hours. School and the recent rise in ammo prices kinda work to hinder the practice I’d like to get in.
How long have you been training with them?
The MN 91/30 for about 2 years continously and the PA-63 for about a month. There’s no satisfaction like being able to play tag at 700m :3
Lastly, are you ready for the zombie apocalypse? Be honest.
In terms of mentality and weaponary, I think I could hold out. Plus I have enough in the way of goodies to outfit a few close friends and whatnot. But, I suppose unless I go stock up on food and other essential supplies I wouldn’t last too long past Z-day. I guess not looking too terribly well in either direction of either survival or total annihialation.

I don’t have any molle gear, but I have a shoulder holster rig thats attached to a web belt and I have a mag pouch with grenade holders. It fits pretty well under the shoulder straps for my ALICE pack too. Saw a shotgun holster on cheaperthandirt that I’m thinking about getting to mount under the top straps horizontally for quick and easy reach.

I have had a zombie plan put together for some time now.
1: my primary weapon/asset would be my short sword, combat staff, and enough food, water, and medicine to last me for three days.
2. I have everything stated above on hand
3. usually three times a week for two hours
4. for four years
5. I was born ready!!!
Angryvikingman on 21 Dec 2008 at 9:50 pm #
Hate to tell you, but you’re going to need more than 3 days worth of food and water. I wouldnt even go outside for the first week if I could help it. Just sit in front of the door with my gun across my lap. Soups, ramen noodles, M.R.E.s, and some stuff I found off of cabelas.com are what I’d keep around the house. The stuff from cabelas has a shelf life of 30 years. There are like 6 different kinds of stuff. Look it up. Item:IJ-517335. Lasagna that keeps for 30 years. Now thats what I’m talking about! As for water, buy gallon jugs of distilled water. Since it has been distilled, there will be no bacteria to cause it to become stagnate if it sits for a long period of time. Before you boil distilled water for cooking, add salt so it doesn’t explode instantaneously when you introduce a contaminant. (Food, a spoon, ect.) I’d recommend creating a still to purify water after zday anyway. Who knows what kind of shit could be in the water after dead bodies start rotting and seeping into the water table.

i have had a plan for the longest time ever
PRIMARY WEPON: i have a katana i train with it every day for about one hour for the last three years
SECONDARY WEPON: two glock 18’s (pistols, and yes dual weild) i have these for five years and train for 10 hours a week and i have enough ammo for each to be realoded at least 60 times
but to be total honest, would i survive it all?…the honest awnser is no.
BUT if all of us here teamed up and worked together perfectly we would have a fighting chance
Cleardiddion on 23 Dec 2008 at 1:20 am #
I’m sorry Sam, not to bash on you, but to be perfectly honest I doubt that you have two Glock 18’s (fully automatic glocks manufactured for police and military use). And if you do, well kudos; it probably means that you’re in quite the healthy financial state which would allow you to actually hole up with confidence with the proper equipment.
But, otherwise, have fun in the lala-land of the mall ninja.

2 Glock 18 how the heck did you score those, and why would you duel wield full auto hand guns in the first place they are barely controllable as its but what ever i prefer an my AR or my FAL
and really how many people on this post have katanas, what does every body what to be a ninja or some thing. I have an idea stop buying yard sale SHIT and go to your local gun store and buy a Glock 17 or 19 and start doing some rack tap drills instead of being some weird want to be mall ninja

Living in a country with strict gun laws, I have never fired one. Even if I could get one, our police and military mainly use german crap from the end of WW2 (some cops have the guns just for show, and it’s public knowledge that, aside from the Special Operations Group, they aren’t allowed to actually fire, and are issued at most four bullets(and this isn’t a third world shit hole, it’s in Europe)). That completely rules out firearms from the scenario.
I guess I’ll have to settle for my machete. It was a gift from a friend, “in case of zombies”. Maybe someday he will be right after all. I practice with it maybe once a week. E also have some skill with knifes, and some practice at making improvised weapons. I have a drawer full of improvised clubs and axes made from broken chairs and tables.
If I could get my hands on a weapon, I would try to find a HK G3, just because it’s what our military uses, so it would be slightly easier to find ammo, replacement parts and stuff. It’s also rumored to be highly resistant to jamming and adverse conditions.
As far as readiness goes, I am in a very poor physical condition, and probably would go down from starvation, since hunting is impractical in this country. I like to think that I could survive by joining a group, and making myself useful as a mediator, and use my knowledge of first aid, survival techniques and quick thinking to secure my importance. If all else fails, I would probably be ready to sink pretty low, probably even end up as a living human monster just to survive.

First of all, let me tell you all that from the responses I am reading, it would seem as though most of us are ready for Z day. It’s not a matter of if, but when.
1) my weapon? Currently, I own a 9mm browning handgun. a 10 gauge “goose gun” shotgun and a 7mm deer rifle. I can tell you this right now. These are not the weapons I would choose for Z day. However, I’ll have to work with that until I find something more fitting. My weapons of choice? A pump action 12 gauge (some would disagree, but I have my reasons) An assault rifle with at least 6 mags and 1000 rounds of ammo. preferably an AK type weapon, but ammo for that may be difficult to find. I would settle for an M4 or M16 type. My sidearm would be a .40 or a .45 automatic. My last line of defense? a durable, blunt object, something that will smash bone and dislocate ligaments.
This sounds like a heavy load, and it is. However, this wouldn’t be what I would walk around with every day, this is my max combat load. I would alter what I carry for what I was doing or was needed.
These weapons are not readily available. I would have to survive with what I had. However, when z day comes, the first order of business would be to procure these weapons. Time to go down to the local N.G armory and get my buddies to hook me up with a few toys. Most of my friends are in the NG and we BS all the time about how we would get the weapons we need.
I grew up in a small town, in a military family. I have been trained with firearms all of my life. I am very comfortable handling many types of these weapons.
I am not ready. Ideally I would have much more emergency supplies, fuel ammo and firearms. Due to budget constraints, I will have to make do with “How will I get the supplies needed when z day arrives” Mentally, I am ready, but I will need to react quickly and put my “z plan” into effect to survive WWZ
zombie survivor on 23 Dec 2008 at 4:48 pm #
edit: To clarify, I wouldn’t carry the 1000 rounds of ammo, I would hopefully have at least that amount stockpiled wherever I was staying.

Zombie Survivor nice plan but one thing i would not count on is the N.G Armory that will be the first place to go any ways the weopns in there are old and welll worn trust me iam in the active army and we get crapy stuff so i couldn’t image what our N.G brothers get mostly hand me downs so invest in a good AR and get your N.G friends to hook you up with mags i have at least 30/30 rnd mags and god only knows how many twenties so good look with your Z plan

What are your weapons:
I have two Katana’s and yes one of them’s a “yard sale pos” but the other is a cryoforged laser sharpened bringer of pain.
As for my secondary weapons, I have both a 50ib hand crossbow and a 200ib full crossbow.
Weapon avaliblity:
The pos katana and the hand crossbow are in the trunk of my car at all times except for when I practice or clean them, the good stuff is at home, and I take very good care of them.
How often do you train:
I train with the Katana’s twice a week for between 1 to 2 hours, as for the cross bows, I train for about 2 hours every weekend, not as much as I should, but enough to be comfortable.
How long have you used them:
I studyed fencing (both sabre and epee) for about 5 years in school, and I’ve been working with the Katana’s for the last 8 so thats about 13 years on sword, the crossbows I’ve only had and worked with for about a year and a half.
How prepared are you:
I’d say I’d probably make it to the house, I have 2 weeks worth of food and water, which gives the Z-menace a chance to spread out enough for me to make a run for my preferred location to fort up.
I’m noticing a lot of people mentioning guns and rifles, the problem being that those are a red flag send up, shouting “soup’s on”. Unless you’re somewhere they can’t climb up to you, or behind a heavy wall they can’t break through, or in a fast moving convoy, firearms are a very bad idea unless you have no other choices, or some way to silence them.
Angryvikingman on 26 Dec 2008 at 4:28 am #
I have a silencer. Fits my AR and my .22LR pistol. Nice gear 3ID! I miss my FAL.
I had the M-249 SAW butt stock and grip on mine, and a milled top cover.
The original one bent around the ejection port after a few hundred rounds.
I shoulda put in pics of my other gear, but I was kind of pressed for time.
Anyone who owns an assault rifle should have enough mags to carry 500 rounds of
ammo for their main gun at any given time. Keep several mags loaded at all times, but
rotate them out so that you dont weaken the feed springs. I’ve been thinking about
getting a C-mag (100 round double drum http://www.betaco.com ) just in case I need to
provide sustained covering fire, or for when shit seriously hits the fan.
Here’s one of my other guns that I had:

1. What are your weapons of choice? Yes weapons, not just your primary weapons but backups as well.
Depending on my situation and setting I would have to change my answer but lets say at home. Other than blunt objects and average house hold materials and tools, I have two rifles, a handgun, and atleast 20 knives. Ammunition is in short though, I have roughly 60 bullets altogether. I would probably start with anything I could toss before I began to use my ammunition, then after the guns I would use the knives. But if I had time to prepare, I would make traps considering my environment and the tools I have.
2. Do you have these weapons readily available? If not, revise your above post. Weapons that you would like to have are no use when you need them.
Yes, all I need to do with the guns is dust two of them off and load them.
3. How often do your train with them?
Knives on a weekly basis, and guns on a monthly. Traps and blunt objects are monthly as well.
4. How long have you been training with them?
3-4 Years give or take.
5. Lastly, are you ready for the zombie apocalypse? Be honest.
Yes, and praying for it to come soon. I am not at the peak of my physical condition nor do I have all the things I would like to have. But survival for a month or upto 3? Yes I am prepared.
another mike on 01 Jan 2009 at 5:37 pm #
1) Weapons of Choice? First is one (1) operational human brain. Mine is loaded with decades of Scouting experience. Back up weapon is a physically fit body. Other weapons include a 30″ Stanley Fubar for close up work, with sawyer and welding clothes as armor. Also have several bows, and can make more bows, strings and arrows. I have guns but I don’t think I’d use them. If the zombie is that far away and hasn’t detected you, there’s no sense giving away your position with a gunshot. The night vision gear would probably be left behind in short order, along with the heavy Halligan bar and fire axe pair.
2) Do I have all that on hand? Ready and waiting. If you don’t have it on hand, don’t dream about it being available after Z-Day.
3) How often do I train? Brain exercises constantly to boost critical thinking and coordination. At the gym three times a week to keep my body in peak shape. Bag a few most every hunting season and can fish well enough to keep from getting too hungry.
4) How long have I been training? My parents went camping for their honeymoon so, literally, since before I was born.
5) Am I prepared? I am an Eagle Scout.
/be prepared

1. AR-15 in my garage, Glock 40, and one other rifle, i forgot what it was called but its a sniper rifle from the vietnam war and it still works and has a 2x/5x/10x zoom scope on it. silencers for all, dont ask where i got them, i just did.
2. very ready. i also live directly next to a gun shop, a definite plus.
3. 4 times a week. shooting cantelopes from 20, 50, and 100 yards.
4. 16 years next month.
5. honestly, almost. i am building an underground anti-zombie/fallout shelter in and under my “basement”. also a 30 foot elevated hose-ish building. not joking.
Cleardiddion on 02 Jan 2009 at 8:22 am #
Mike, just out of curiosity; you are aware that silencers are a class 3 restricted item correct? That the possession of such without the proper licensing along with the $200 tax stamp per said item is a felony which will land in your awesomely hot water with the federal government?
If you do have them, well by the dark lords you’ve just dropped $600 in just tax stamps, appx. (depending on make) $1,200 on the silencers themselves, and somewhere easily over $1,000 on just threaded barrels. That’s some serious cash there buddy.
And Saun, seriously; stop kidding yourself, really. We’ll continue to doubt (not continue ‘doughting’ as you said, unless you were attempting to refer to some sort of delicious fried pastry or two). English law banned handgun ownership with the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act of 1997 to start off, along with the fact that fully automatic arms were banned long before that in 1937. Then we have to move on to remember that Glock 18’s were not imported into the United Kingdom for anything other then testing and evaluation. And to boot, the average yearly wage of a police officer in the UK is appx. 27,500 pounds. When you look at the fact that even in the US you are looking to spend a minimum of $9,000 (6,190 pounds) on just one automatic weapon, sans other costs (also considering that even deactivated replica weapons are at a premium), you can begin to see how your fantasy begins to break down.
However, if you wish to live your life in a world where the skies turn whatever color you wish and William Shatner smiles from above flinging puppies and sunshine from his arse…well, please, don’t let us interrupt. :D
Sorry for the long reply, just somewhat sick of mall ninjas and the like running about and smearing filth all over the place

Cleardiddion i like the UK gun history very nice. also that was one of the most intellectual burns i have seen on ZAC so kudos for you. also in America a Glock 18 is pretty much impossible to get they were all demos and the only way to get one is have a class III weapons licenses and you have to be a dealer so with that said you would have to be extremely wealthy here in the states just to own one, if you had two, say HELLO to the ATF they are know your new best friends
Angryvikingman on 03 Jan 2009 at 3:24 pm #
Well, you can score a class 3 manufacturers license for $800, and renew every 3 years for $100-$300 depending on what you are making. You can do anything from explosive devices to guns, to accessories. You and buy anything you want for “Research Purposes”
LOL! Oddly, all of the full auto stuff you can buy AFTER you get a class 3 is WAY cheaper than the semi-auto you can get as a civilian. I know a guy with a class 3 who got an mp5 for $800, new in the box. The semi auto versions with a 16 inch barrel(gag) cost 1600 or more. Forget about Pre-86 transferrable stuff, you’d pay 12000 or more for just about anything other than an uzi. Uzis suck. I paid $469 total for my silencer-$259, and the tax stamp-$200, and a sherrif’s dept. background check-$10. They’re not really all that costly. Of course, that all depends on the caliber, manufacturer, and model. It was a nice burn, wasnt it.
Cleardiddion on 03 Jan 2009 at 7:09 pm #
Well, class 3 and class 2 manufacturing is a whole different barrel of monkeys to be honest.
With that sort of deal you’re actually more than free to take bits of steel, plastic, Olga’s toe nail clippings and whatnot to pretty much make whatver you wish. :)
Tennesseejed on 04 Jan 2009 at 7:22 pm #
With Obama and the Dems soon to be in full power. You had better start purchasing firearms and ammunition at an increased rate. Within several years the plan is to raise the federal taxes to a point where a Glock 22 will cost over $1500 and ammunition will be upwards of $100/ box. Good thing though, when the Z day comes, they’ll all be out of office within several days.

As far as weaponry, I keep several Glocks, Rifles, and shotguns within easy reach at all times. Plus being a Cop and Armorer don’t hurt either. I have unlimited access to the weapons room. none of us can truly prepare
for such a day…For all we know we could be fighting off
our very families..and if they dont kill you the shier psychological damage that has been done might.
not only are the zombies our enemies
But the brink of insanity as well
I mean I could easily butcher a entire supermarket full of zombies
but I dont think I can butcher the ones I love let alone..even begin to
comprehend the fact that my dad and little bro are trying to eat me
=’[
but never the less here is my answers:
1.I have no guns but my increasing knowledge of the human anatomy will help me as much as bullets
2.Weapons that I have can and will destroy the skull structure of a human being or “zombie”
3.I try to train as much as possible but school and a girlfriend
I sadly, find little time to do so
4.Ever since I bought the “zombie survival guide” by max brooks
(it has become my bible) which was in 2001
5. none of us are truly ready..no matter how much we would like to think we are.

5 i am ready. my father is retired military and we have boxes and boxes of MRE (for those of you who dont know what that is it stands for Meal. Ready. To Eat.) we have 2 30.06 with a healthy ammount of ammunition. i do ninjutsu (yes like a ninja) and i have been doing hunting for most of my life and i know where to hit and how to lead a target. my only problem would be if i was alone. im a very talkative person and i’d be afraid i was gunna go insane so i would need survivor(s) with me so i just wouldn’t go crazy… other then that i’m decently prepaired. also!!!! a tip when shit hits the proverbal fan and you have a easily defendable house or location in mind make a rout to get to like home depot or something for cement (for windows very close to the ground) and plywood or even metal framed shutters if you can get them!!

1- I’ve got a springer mil-spec 45 that I’ve put a few hundred rounds through, a Wasr10 Ak clone, and a Ithaca 37 12 gauge pump with 20″ barrel and extended mag tube. I have 40 shells buckshot, about 100 gameloads that wouldn’t do crap to the undead, 360 rounds 7.62 for the Ak, and 500 rounds .45 ACP.
My roommate has a tricked out AR, a Sig 220, and a Remington 1100.
2-My guns are kept locked under my bed, as soon as my concealed carry comes through I’ll have the 1911 on me most of the time.
3&4-I’m fairly familiar with the shotgun and pistol and have experience shooting moving targets with both (thrown coke cans, skeet, etc.). The Ak I have never had a chance to actually fire more than 10 rounds through, but I’ve been trained on other similar rifle platforms including the SKS. I tend to practice marksmanship several times a week for a few hours but that is usually small bore .22LR (I’m on my schools rifle pistol team) though the principals are the same. It is always nice being able to hit a target the size of a dime from 50 feet while standing.
5-Not really. Sure I have guns, ammo, training, camping equipment, and even a nice food supply (ramen by the case and almost 100 cans of premade chili\macaroni\spaghetti\other crap college students eat) but I’m located near an urban center without a car. My roommate has a truck but I wouldn’t want to have my survival plan hinge on someone else. As it stands right now I might not be able to get out of the city. I live in a second story apartment with a fairly heavy metal door that I’m sure could withstand some degree of abuse without even being barricaded but I could be forced to remain in my apartment indefinitely. Without some plan for escape it would only be a matter of time before I ran out of food, or the door was breached. So without some sort of intervention from higher powers (God, the Government, etc) I would likely eventually die. Alternatively I could get a ride from my roomie to his folks place which would have a much brighter chance for survival do to it’s location and the second amendment supporting nature of those that live nearby. This of course being the unlikely best case scenario.
The truth is that it would take an incredible amount of preparation to be truly ready for the zombie apocalypse. You would need a means of defense not only from the undead but from other survivors intent on taking what you have, and enough food and water to survive until the zombie hordes had significantly decomposed something which could take years decades, or might never happen at all. If you are at a fixed location the water could be easier to handle than you might think while the food harder. All you would need for water is a well. For food you would need enough arable land to support you and your family. With as little as a half acre, and numerous hanging plants it would be possible to grow a small amount of corn, potatoes, tomatoes and other small vegetable crops, you could use the corn as means to feed chickens you keep inside of an indoor area and then use their waste as fertilizer. This would still probably only be enough to supplement a diet of precataclysm food depending on the number of people relying on it. Your food stockpiles would have to include enough canned goods to rely on for several years in the event of a poor harvest, and should include such items as dehydrated milk in order to prevent rickets in younger party members and other illnesses in the adults. Your defenses should include structures that require a minimum of maintenance, while at the same time proving themselves an insurmountable obstacle to the undead. Ideally something like http://www.castlemagic.com/color.html would be used. Really though, if you can’t fulfill the requirements of nigh impenetrable defense, unlimited food and water, you aren’t truly ready. You are just better prepared than others might be.

1. Rock River arms CAR A2 w/ red dot, 10 30round mags, ruger 9mm, 1187 12 gauge (remington), 870 pump express(remmington, short range), 303 Lee enfield, .22 savage mark 2
2. all at my house, plenty ammo around
3. at least 5 hours a week of straight up shooting
4. About 17 years
5. I need more food, but am good with radios and firearms. Probably could last a while.
P.S. Every one who uses melee weapons, do you really want a Brain sucker to be close enough to you to hit him?

1 )I haven’t decided between my 12guage and my .22lr for a primary weapon. The shotgun is a Charles daily pump and an 18″ barrel, I think I got burned on the price $400 bucks feels pretty steep to me. The .22 is a savage bolt action, its clip fed but I’ve only got three 10 round mags. I could use my AR-7 but if you’ve ever shot one you know how they like to jam for no apparent reason, not often, just whenever.
My secondary is either the beat up woods-mans helper in the back off my truck or the beat up crow bar. The w.m.h isn’t dull but its not that sharp at anytime either. I don’t like how heavy it is i tried swinging it at a piece of PVC and it threw me off balance. I hate the thought of fighting a zombie hand to hand or even with something like a machete or crowbar. Does a bumper count as a back up weapon?
I don’t think I’ll choose between the two. Ill just keep the 12 and bolt in the truck and use as needed.
2)I drive myself every where so I’m usually within 100yd of “the kit” as my friends like to call it when they poke fun. If i cant get to a vehicle in a situation where i need my stuff I’m boned anyway.
3)I don’t really “practice” with the guns as much as i use them.
last week are company got invited by the guys we buy fertilizer from to a dove shoot. A dove shoot with an 18″ barrel is just a waist of ammo. But one of my favorite haunts is hazel leaf’s range where its just 4 bucks a round for trap as long as you bring your own shells i get 20 out 0f 25 as an average. A zombies head compared to a clay seems much easier. Unless they run, then well…damn.
I shoot at random stuff almost every day with the .22 just for fun and for the past 5 years I’ve been an instructor for target rifle and shotgun with the local hunter’s safety course and a group I wont mention, not because its gov. or top secret or nothing its just a community safety thing, so yeah.
4)As far as firearms go training has been since I was 12 and entered that group i was talking about. The other stuff that doesn’t involve guns well I’ve picked them up before and that’s about as much experience you need with a blunt object.
5) Definitely not but bring it on anyways. What else am I gonna do.

4: Never.

Saun,
I don’t mean to jump on the bash-wagon, but what color is the sky in your world? Rich police officer dual-weilding Glock 18’s? Dual-weilding implies you are firing both at the same time by the way requiring you to reload both at the same time. In addition, ten hours of range time a week with any Glock 9mm is a lot of rounds even if you aren’t spraying 33 rounds out of each hand with the fun switch on (a chore unto itself). I call BS, tactical Timmy, and “doubt” is spelled with a “B” not a “GH”.
Docwade on 20 Jan 2009 at 1:22 am #
1. Primary weapons: LBV is currently setup for my DR200 with 8 30 round pmags loaded to 25 each on the vest and 6 additional mags in a drop-leg mag pouch. Vest allows carrying of my Glock 34 with 6 17 rounders, and a cold steel tomahawk on the lower back for fun. In addition to weapons on the LBV, I have a compass, mg flint, canteen, swiss army knife, and small first aid kit. I should change out the mags for 5.45×39 for one of my Bulgy ak74s’.
2. The gear is readily available and ready to go.
3. Practice the most with the Glock 34, Q 2 weeks during IDPA matches. I’ve scaled back my rifle shooting due to the current concern over the possibility of new firearms regs. I do not practice with the tomahawk.
4. I’ve been shooting for a long time now.
5. I would be stable for about 7 days. Unfortunately after that, it’s time to start venturing out and about.

I keep seeing people listing all their guns, leaving out a melee weapon and saying “if a zed is that close I’m dead anyway” but one of them WILL get that close its just going to happen. I’m not saying I would survive it either and I’m not calling you out, I just want to see as many people survive as possible. So please, just grab a stick off the ground and hit stuff with it until you think you could knock somebody out.

1. 9mm Rock River AR-15 with 19 32rd mags.
glock 17 with 44 mags(6-10rd,24-17rd,14-33rd)
Benelli M1 Tactical 12ga
SOG Fusion Tomahawk
I realize that these calibers are overkill for zombies, but if I have to choose my guns
I want to have something to stop humans as well.
If I can hole up at home I would mostly shoot my Custom 10/22.
As of right now I have 12,900rds of .22, 7,200rds of 9mm, 1,270rds of 12ga.
2. Yes, these and several more are readily available at my house.
The round count varies from time to time but I’m always well stocked.
3. I train with the firearms regularly. I’m an NRA instructor and ranked Expert in IDPA.
The tomahawk would be trial by fire, I play with it but don’t train.
4. I have been shooting for years.
5. I think I’m as prepared as is reasonably possible.

Anyone who even mentions “Dual Weilding” has played too many video games.
And .50 Desert Eagles? Seriously? Not only is Ammo hard to get and expensive but plenty of extra magazines would be prohibitively expensive even to a really rich person. Like a cop.

Interesting enough there is such a thing as a CO2 powered knife.
They were designed for the spesnatz and you could find them in the US for a few years until the ATF banned their importation due to them having ‘no sporting purpose’ :p
McLuvin on 26 Jan 2009 at 11:33 pm #
I’m not denying the existence of the CO2 powered knife.
I just have a hard time believing that this retard carries one with him, along with his sawed off shotgun in his pants.
Docwade on 28 Jan 2009 at 6:22 am #
I’m pretty sure that CO2 knife was a dive knife used for sharks. The spring fired knife marketed as a Spetsnaz knife, like the one used by Swartzeneggar in Commando, is the one that is fired. Neither being useful. I also saw a 50lbs hand crossbow mentioned up top. I used to have one of those…used to shoot it at a foot stool in the living room. It would barely penetrate the vinyl wrapped pine. The bolts are field tips so, I hope you are a good shot…I’ll be the blur hauling butt the other way.

1. I currently own 4 firearms… remington 870 12 gauge with 18 inch barrel, 6+1 capacity, folding stock, pistol grip forend, flash light, and sling
smith and wesson model 681 .357 magnum revolver with holster, houge grip, 2 hks speed loaders and 2 speed strips
baikal 12 guage side by side double barrel shotgun with sling, and side saddle
pretty much irrelivent but a pheonix arms hp22 semi auto pistol with 2 differant length barrels and 3 magazines(only .22 caliber)
also an asortment of melee weapons. most likely usuable would be…
a small full sized axe(not hand axe) single sided with grooves ground into it to lessen the chance of it getting lodged in bone… also i choose single sided because having a blade or spike on the other side may harm me or my team… aswell the flat side can be used as a hammer
a mace i made from a broom handle reinforced with sheet metal running down the length and a huge nut on the end from a weight set
a small little league bat cut down the end a little to make a sort of mace and installed a large bolt protruding near the end (sort of like a pick axe) and sharpend to pentrate the skull
2. the double barrel shotgun rides in my trunk just incase… along with a tire iron which i would never want to rely on… and the rest are at home… thinking of keeping the 22 in my glove box since i shoot it alot
3.and 4. i have trained with the firearms for a year atleast 2 times a week… and the melee weapons although are pretty straight forward i practice by breaking things
5. i always keep 200 various rounds of 12 guage.. 100 .357 and 1,000 22 on hand…
i believe i am ready mentally and wish for the day to come to give my life complete meaning… physically i dont believe i am fit although i am a big guy i smoke alot and dont work out.. my intial plans would be precure enough food for 3-5 days… obviously get as much ammo as i can… and rally anyone willing to join me… then make a trek from colorado to new york to meet up with my brother and closest friends
after that point we all would appoint some sort of leadership and decide on a could place to bunker down ewhe
Skeluhtor on 02 Feb 2009 at 7:05 pm #
(oops)
after that point we all would appoint some sort of leadership and decide on a good place to bunker down either a large fort type area, island or underground
once there we would start training regiments to become fit.. and prcure a lasting food source such as farming/gardening… aswell as conduct raids for supplies with modified vehicles of course
my main role would be all around jack of all trades as thats what i am already… and a combat roll ideally would be heavily armoured tank type… i will never be fast but my reflex’s are great.. my ideal armor ould be a leather jacket with aluminum plates riveted or a light chainmail shirt with welded links… also probly a modified football helmet and of course this and that here and there
the reason for me hording weapons now(and i plan on getting many more) is to have enough for me and a small group atleast till we can find more… and the reason for multipal 12 guage shotguns is because its a proven tactical weapon and can be adapted to many situation aswell as it being the most common gun in the us and ammo is abundant
as for my weapons it would be the remington 870… and the axe as a backup.. also the s&w 357 unless someone i know needs it

1. My weapons of choice would have to be a Columbian made machete. It’s authentic and it’s been passed down through my family for a few generations, and it’s in perfect state. I don’t use it often but I do take a form of martial arts in which we use sticks and I’d say with that it’s enough practice for the machete.
Also, until I could get my hands on a gun, I’d use my paintball and airsoft guns at high pressure and although with 1 shot it wont kill, I’d be able to at least fend them off until I get to safety. I play paintball every weekend, over 3 games a day, on Saturday and Sunday. Airsoft I play almost every day. If I got my hands on a gun, I’d be able to use it very well, plus I have done some deer/duck hunting in the past.
I’ve been playing paintball and airsoft since I was 11, I’m 17 now, it’s been awhile, and for the martial arts, I’ve been doing since I was 8.
Would I be ready for a zombie apocalypse? Well, honestly, I’d be terrified but once the moment of intense fear and panic passed, I’d be killing zombies as if it’s Dead Rising or Halo 3.
Kawarider on 19 Feb 2009 at 11:18 pm #
What are your weapons of choice? Yes weapons, not just your primary weapons but backups as well.
Let’s see. I have on hand:
One Browning A-bolt in .308 with the BOSS. That’s convenient. I do handload/reload but it’s nice to be able to get near match grade accuracy from non-match grade commercially loaded ammo.
One Remington 700 in .308 with the “bull” barrel and a Harris bipod. It doesn’t have the short bolt-throw of the Browning, but it is accurate.
One Browning BPS in 12 ga. with a Nordic Components extended magazine. With one in the chamber that gives me 9 rounds before I have to reload. I also have multiple choke tubes, including both an IC and a rifled tube, so I can fire both rifled and sabot slugs.
Three .22 LR rifles…one old Remington pump, one really cheap Marlin model 60 and a Winchester bolt action.
One 1911 A-1 .45
Two Ruger MK III .22 LR pistols with the heavy barrels.
One Ruger “Super Single Six” This has the .22LR cylinder and a .22 “Win Mag” cylinder.
Knives…too numerous to count
Swords…one, but let’s be honest, my SCA time is not a substitute for a 168 gr. hollow point Sierra boattail delivered from 400 meters away. My Drill Instructor was right…if it’s dangerous shoot it and kill it. I’ll stick with the firearms.
Do you have these weapons readily available? If not, revise your above post. Weapons that you would like to have are no use when you need them.
Yes, they are readily available.
How often do your train with them?
Not as often as I would like. Only 4-5 times per month now. But, I put at least one hundred rounds through each one every month.
How long have you been training with them?
I’ve been shooting since I was about 6, so about 40 years. If you don’t count the MK IIIs or the replacement barrels on the .308s I’ve been training with these weapons, or similar ones, for about 30 years…well 25 for the .45
4.Lastly, are you ready for the zombie apocalypse? Be honest.
Yep. I have the “run and hide” place picked out for me and my family as well as multiple routes, vehicles, food, tools and back-up plans
James on 20 Feb 2009 at 7:41 pm #
I seem to be 16 at the moment in the least gun friendly country in the world (England (can’t even carry my pen knife freely anymore))
I paintball alot, I know it isn’t the most realistic military simulation due to lack of recoil etc. but atleast I can hit a target first time, then I can suffer the recoil, as soon as I’m old enough I’m going to the gun range…
But weapon of choice/most avalible:
1:L85a2 is this countries army issue weapon, hence the most abbundant automatic firearm.
2:12 gauge shotgun.
3:Pistols aren’t really a strong point in this country, there are always people who say that they’ve got a friend of a friend who could hook you up with a ‘nine’ but considering this could be a lie. It would have to be a Browning high power L9a1, 13 shot 9mm, it’s okay, not the best but beggars can’t be choosers.
4:Woodworm oak cricket bat (W00T for english culture) or baseball bat. nice long swing radius for open combat.
5: STOP hammer time da na na na. Yes a bog standard short hammer + claw end. For uber CQB.
Firearms wise, you really want ANYTHING that shoots, okay not anything, dont waste your time with paintball guns filled with tacks. you want a gun for every caliber on the market. Even if it’s a FiveseveN or P90 (Fire the 5.70mm rounds) you never know when you could get lucky. I’m not saying you carry every gun, just stash em in your hide away. You want spots all over the base with at least two guns and a bandolier full of ammo.

1. My first weapon of choice would be a shovel. I tend to keep it at melee weapons, since my aim wouldn’t be the best and I might get nervous or jumpy with a gun, which would only attract more undead. Besides weapons I have some equipment that could keep me (modestly) safe, like an old army helmet, a trenchcoat, not the best of things, but every little bit helps. My secondary weapon would be a fake katana. Even though it’s not real, let alone sharp, it’s still quite effective and, after all, as long as it whacks their brains, it’s good enough. Furthermore, I’m quite agile, able to run quite fast, quite some distance and jump a fair bit. That combined with the fact that I’m streetsmart and that I have good reflexes, I tend to make use of everything that crosses my path, be it bottles to throw with or crates to make a barricade with.
2. Yes, I do. The shovel is a small fold-up shovel from when my dad was in service. That’s where I got the helmet from too and I bought the trenchcoat as a coat for winters. The Katana is decoration. Agility is always there.
3. To be honest, never. But I do suffer some rages now and then, so I’ll know how to swing an object or two. Also, I think the adrenaline would take over in case of a zombie outbreak. Either that or I’d freeze up.
4. As I said, not much. As a child, though, I liked pretending to be a knight, so I do know how to swing a sword. Also, I game alot, so I do have knowledge about tactics.
5. Is there really anyone who is? Of course I’m not! But if they do break out, I’ll be able to keep myself alive for quite some time. In that time I just need to find some back-up. First thing I’d do is checking if there are friends in my neighbourhood who are still alive and team up with them. Otherwise, find other survivors a.s.a.p.

…Jeeze, why does everyone seem to have guns? Am I the ONLY 14 year-old who thinks about this sort of stuff? Or at least the only one who doesn’t have access to loads of cash or a gun-legal parent/guardian?
Anyway:
1) My main weapon would be my brain. All the guns in the world aren’t worth anything if you don’t have the head to use them.
Honestly, I would be running away, not really trying to bash a Zed’s head in unless one got too close. For those, I would use either a shovel, crowbar, and/or a bat.
2) My brain is safe and snug inside my head, all the rest but the bat are located in the garden shed near my house. The bat is kept safely tucked away next to my brother’s bed.
3) I think I use my brain all the time so..yea…Everything else: not very often, though it shouldn’t be all that hard to smack something with something..
4) See above? Is there really a difference between the two?
5) Hell no.
Cid on 27 Mar 2009 at 4:23 am #
1. I’d have to go for cognitive capabilities as well. Other than that, there’s a handaxe in the garage.
2. My brain is always ready. The axe if I’m home, if I’m in my student appartment, then I have my trusty…nailclippers.
3. I use my brain every day, and I sometimes chop wood. I also sometimes clip my nails.
4. For as long as I can remember.
5. No one can ever be ready for the end of the fricking world. But we’re like cockroaches, we’ll survive as a species. I’ll probably die though.

1. I don’t have any guns so i would probably bring alot of knives, a blunt weapon like a bat. Oh and I would also make some kind of spear out of a broomstick (is that spelled right? i’m dutch) and a knife duck-taped together.
2. All of the above is available at the time of a zombie outbreak… well i would need to ducktape the spear thingy first but that would take like 5 seconds.
3. How well can you train with knives? I do know how to use them however and i luckily am very agile so i can compensate my lack of commando knife skill.
4. I have been “training” (note playing) with plastic swords and knifes all my live. as i got older i started buying real knives to start a collection.
5. Ofcourse not, you can never be ready becouse when z-day does occur you’ll never know what kind of zombies you’re dealing with

I hav several .22 rifles, a 12-gague, a japanese Rifle an my bro has a M-4 Rifle with red dot scope and extending sock. these are some of the simplest weapons to use, its basically point and shoot. I would never decide to go full auto with ANY gun. thats why so many people died in the viet-nam war. they had better weapons than us, because ours were automatic, which is what they thought best at the time. anyway I’ve been shooting a .22 for as long as i can remember and im 17 at the moment. Although I don’t hav the best aim in the world, I would be just fine with having to defend my home from zeds. I am hoping that my brother will buy me a reciever for a .45 b4 Obama bans all firearms, so that I can hav a sidearm in case the shit cuts loose. But yeah I am absolutely ready for the zombie apocalypse. I actually can’t wait for it to happen cuz I’m sure as hell not oing to die old and tired. I wanna see something spectacular happen at the time of my death, not a white ceiling and pretty nurses…

my primary would be my .30-30 lever action rifle. it holds 7 rounds and is accurate up to
400m. ive got a 30 round bandoleer and about another hundred rounds in boxes. its
also got a 4×40mm scope on it.
my secondary would be my .22 LR caliber DA revolver. its got a six round capacity and
ive got like 500 rounds for it. not the most powerful gun but it’ll kill with 1 shot to the
head.
last of all id take my BUCK 120 hunting knife. its got a 7 inch blade and i always
keep it razor sharp.
ive been shooting guns since i was 6 and i get most of my practice while hunting. its easy
to hit a bottle sitting on a fence but hitting a rabbit running at full speed is not unless
youve trained and practised. skeet shootings fund to. if you count duck hunt on
nintendo ive been traing my whole life.

Saun (emo kid), I lurk here from time to time but your two posts have driven me to step out of the shadows and give you the verbal flaming you so dearly need.
1. You do not own two Glock G18’s, you do not even own one G18.
G18’s are not sold to the general public, they are sold under contract to Military and Police forces ONLY!
2.Here in the UK 75% of Police officers DO NOT carry firearms, the few that do are usually members of Armed Response Teams, such as London’s SO19…AND even these officers are not equipped with G18’s.
3.EVEN if you where a member of one of these specialized armed devisions and you did use a G18, you would not have it stored in your home as ALL firearms are accounted for, officers out on call have to sign for their weapons when they leave the station and when they return.
4.And finally NO Soldier OR Police officer with firearms training dual weilds as it is impractical, inaccurate and fucking stupid!
GB2 to trolling /k/ yous stupid child!

Being a blade retailer I have more than enough sharp stabby stuff around, and no my katana’s aren’t “lazer sharpened, cryo what ever” they are folded steel, differently hardened and sharpened/polished with finger stones. My plan would be to bunker down,be quiet and wait and see rather than go out and join the zombie fest. I shoot every weekend, pistols, rifle and shotguns. I try to keep at least 500 rounds and preferably 1000 on hand for each calibre. I reload all my ammo, that way I know my weapons will like what I feed them. Been messing with swords and guns for 20yrs, so am I ready? YES. Will I survive? The zed’s yes, what worries me more is the live ones.
