This one isn't so bad. A supermarket has plenty of possible weapons. I would probably try to kill the zombies and save as many people as possible, while blocking up the door. Once is done, i'd try to seal the other exits, while organising the panicking mob of unhappy shoppers. Once everyone has calmed down, i would use the announcing system to tell everyone what's happening, and tell them to arm themselves. While they do this, i would equip myself with weapons and "armour". Multiple shirts and jumpers will do a decent job of keeping them from biting you, and while a bucket on your head may look stupid, it could save your life. Also, thick gardeners gloves might be a good idea.

Finally, after stocking up on food supplies with varied use-by dates (don't take just things with long useby dates, because you can save them for when everything else has gone bad), i would unblock the main door and we would all charge into the parking lot and attempt to kill the zeds while escaping to our vehicles. if possible, i would try to steal a nice big delivery truck, and get supplies and people without a vehicle in the back.

Quick series:
1. Kill zed-heads
2. Check parking lot
2a. If no more: get home
2b. If escape impossible or unlikely: call on employees to lock main doors and drop security shutters
3. Divide anyone still inside into two groups: those wishing to stay/those wishing to leave
4. Send those wishing to leave out the back
5. Secure all exits
6. Arm and give remaining people things to do
6a. One person uses the security cameras to watch outside
6b. 1/2 of people reinforcing exits
6c. One person seeking outside communication
6d. Remaining people setting up fallback points and helping wherever necessary
6e. Self: helping wherever necessary and waiting on communications
7. live in the fortress until it is no longer viable or until way home is usable then get home.

Quick addition on improvised weaponry and morale, while held up in your grocer-fort.

The broomhandle/kitchen knife spear idea is a good one, for keeping zombies away from you, and perhaps disabling their legs by slashing muscle and tendon. However, the amount of force it would take to drive a kitchen knife through the skull of an average human being would most likely destroy your spear.

I would suggest taking one of those canvas bags most grocery stores sell to avoid plastic bag waste, and putting one or more LARGE cans in it, like the ones they sell bulk tomato sauce in. Or even better, depending on the store, a pair of bricks. There you have a nice improvised mace. Messy, but effective and will be more difficult to break, and easier to remake once they do.

Keeping morale high will be difficult. I suggest using a reward system. Have people take turns scouting (in groups of at least three), and reward those that return. Give them alcohol, first pick from what they risked their lives getting, etc. Do the same with anyone making obvious effort to make your fort secure. Anyone who sits around whining and complaining will quickly learn that work equals reward.

Lastly, fill any empty containers with water as soon as they're emptied. If and when the power goes out, the milk jugs and anything else perishable will go fast. Use what you can, then empty them out and fill them up, because you never know if the water will get shut off next or get contaminated somehow.

Well, so far many people seem to have good advice. The way I see it, there are a few things you can do to ensure your survival if caught by a zed attack in a grocery store.

First, assess the threat level. Only two zombies coming through the front door means that a full scale attack hasn't occurred yet, but is likely on the way. While I personally would help fend off those two Z's, it's not a bad idea to take a peek out the front doors. If the parking lot is full of zeds, then it's time to eliminate any zeds inside and then lock the place down. If the parking lot is relatively empty, then give yourself 5 minutes to load what you can into your vehicle and get out.

Why only 5 minutes? Because you don't know how many more are out there, or what situation the rest of the city is in. Taking any longer than just a few minutes could mean your window of escape-opportunity disappears, and then you're left with no alternative but staying put.

Why get out at all? Many grocery stores are built as temporary bomb shelters, and have enough canned food for a long siege. However, it's also the place any other survivors are going to be flocking to. It may sound cold-hearted, but being the one (percieved) as hoarding all the food is a good way to get killed. Not by zeds, but by your fellow survivors.

If lockdown is your only option, then use shelving, shopping carts, bags of cat litter, anything heavy to barricade ALL the exits. This includes things like small windows, air vents big enough for a small child to crawl through, everything. (You don't know if animals can be infected, and a swarm of z-squirrels is NOT what you want waking you up some morning in your grocery-fort.) Make sure you have access to the roof, and spend some time AFTER you know you're safe from break-ins building a rope ladder in case your fort becomes compromised, and for daytime excursions into other nearby stores for supplies.

Then it's simply a waiting game. Eventually, you'll either get the all-clear (unlikely), or your scouts will find a safer, easier to fortify place to live. Don't demolish your barricades when you move out though, always have a place to run to if possible. Keep moving this way, old fort to new fort, safe location to safer location, until you're out of the city and can find a good place out in the countryside to defend and start civilization anew.

Deal with the two Zs before 2 become 4, 4 becomes 8 and so on. Lockdown the store. Then get people calm. Beware someone hitting the fire alarm (the alarm may override the locks or even automatically open the doors). Only now do you have time to formulate a plan.

Now gauge the situation outside. The circumstances will likely dictate strategy - whether to lock-in or run for it. How bad is it out there? The car park may be overrun. Is it an out-of-town supermarket (not a bad place to be) or in a populated area?

Even if you escape it might be beneficial to lockdown the store behind you, with one door barred but accessible. You now have a potential safe spot and resupply point. Of course whether this is time well spent depends on circumstance.

I'm not convinced by knives. If bites pass infection then it's likely the saliva which surely means the blood too. Stabbing and slashing sprays blood which you could breathe in, I'd be doing for a blunt instrument to clothed areas.

Well, I would want to help the people being attacked, at the time they would be the only people willing to help because they know what is going on. I wouldn't hesitate in helping them, for it would not be a huge risk seeing there is only two. After the situation is settled, check for bites and wounds, and who ever has bites...dispose of them later, use them for what I can now. I would ask the employee to lock the doors, after observing how many zombies there are outside. If there is a minimum amount of zombies, I wouldn't want him to lock the doors, in fact I would want to venture out and start our(if people would be willing to follow) way to a safer place for the night, and let the apocalypse commence
If there were a lot lock the doors, and flood the entrance with karts. Afterward, ask the employee for other exit's and entrances, and a way to the roof top. We need to get to the roof top to check the area. If we are surrounded, then we would only last so long before they got to us. If there were a way out, I would ask for all help to try and escape the market.(seeing this as a Safeway rather then a Wal-Mart or a shopping center of that kind with a gun rack or knives)
So after deciding on that, if we were to be venturing out, I'm sure the market would have backpacks of some-sort so we could designate pack-mules that would carry food and water. Everyone would have to have a blunt object to fend themselves, and we would need to stick together, they would become my closest friends, and my new family.
I am 98% against holding up in one spot. I want to be on the move, preferably in forests, fields and less populated area's. The survivors and I would need to leave the town as fast as possible and become nomadic people. The more you move, the less zombies can gather up around you, but I am also assuming there will be lots of people holding up that would let us in(A bad assumption, but still..).
That is how I would want to deal with that moment, and further into the zombie apocalypse
