Holiday Zombie Survival Tips

Photo via Vagabondish
The Christmas holidays have come and gone, and no zombie apocalypse. While good news, this most certainly does not imply that we are out of the woods. In fact, this is actually a very dangerous time in the realm of undead defense. Here are five helpful holiday zombie survival tips.
- Travel: Many people are off work during this time and on vacation visiting family. While this is great in terms of traffic, it also means that many are in areas where they are not totally familiar with their surroundings. If you are traveling for the holidays, make sure you are able to navigate the area, keeping escape routes in mind.
- Supplies: If you are traveling out of state, out of country, or even visiting friends or family just a few hours away, make sure you have access to supplies (i.e. MZPK). It is one thing to find yourself in an unfamiliar environment, but it is a totally different thing to find yourself in that environment without any means to survive or defend yourself.
- Visitors: You may not be the ones traveling, but you might be host to visiting family or friends. Should this be the case, you have a decision to make. Either you will execute your zombie defense plan and leave your visitors to fend for themselves, or you will include them in the plan. If you plan to include them, they need to be aware of your plan to the point where they will not slow you down.
- Maps: Since many do travel during the holiday season, the airports and highways are usually full of “out of towners”. Normally these places are to be avoided during an outbreak anyway, however, a map of your area, and all surrounding areas should be within reach so that you can safely navigate backroads to where you plan to make a defensive stand.
- Remain Vigilant: It is great to relax and enjoy the holidays, but that does not include letting your guard down to the point where you are no longer safe. With family and friends around, take some time over dinner to run some zombie scenarios by them. This is merely common sense. The outbreak could happen at any time and there is no vacation or holiday from that fact.
Stay safe. Stay informed. Stay alive.

It is important to always be ready. My family thinks I’m crazy when I talk about zombies, but they are better prepared just hearing me preach. In the event of an outbreak while you are visiting family or hosting visitors it falls on you to lead the charge. You need to decide who does what and get the plan in motion. If you plan to stay, start barricading doors and windows. If you are heading out, get the vehicle ready. It will be up to you to decide who fights and who supports. My family already knows that not everyone gets a gun. After the zompocalypse there will be two classes of people shooters and loaders.

Just be sure that if you are traveling that you have your bug out bag in the car with you .
This way you will not be cought completly off guard.
Weapons, Ammo, food and water, shelter and fuel are not hard things to have in your car.
Plus this time of year with the bad weather it is just good practice to always
have basic survival gear in your car with you.
We will not know when the Zeds will rise but if you are prepared then
it will not matter. Lets just hope that this thing happens before we are all to old to do anything about it……….LOL.
SO have your plan and the right gear close by. This should be any day of the year not just the holiday season.

It’s a pity that we didn’t have a zombie outbreak during Christmas, I didn’t get the Christmas present I wanted, death and destruction. SANTA YOU BASTARD!!!! Lol.
Though Killer B has a good point that a friend of mine brought up tonight, he would prefer the outbreak to come now while he can still pull a trigger, or once he’s dead and gone, at which point he doesn’t care anymore. I mean how horrible could it be to be in a nursing home to start with, now add zombies, that’s a special kind of hell.
“They won’t get me they won’t get me thought they never cease to try
they won’t get me they won’t get me I would rather fight and die
they won’t get me they won’t get me well my friend will they get you?
when they get you when they get you tell me what are you gonna do?”

At least a bed ridden zombie is less of a threat, and his teeth will probably be in a glass next to him so being gummed by a zed though distasteful would probably not be fatal. LOL
Time to think about investing in that sword cane me thinks as another year passes.
Happy New Year guys!

I think that the winter-time zombie attack could possibly be the best option. The extreme cold could halt or slow a zombie’s movements (in northern areas). It would be fairly easy to track them in the snow, while it is unlikely that they would care to follow any tracks you left, as they are probably not that smart. Also, any food stuffs would be preserved longer in the cold weather.
Downside – its really cold. Suppose the grid goes off. No more electric heat. Fire is very easy to spot, hard to hide from a zombie.
Also, there is less sunlight in the winter months, so the night is longer, so it is harder to spot the zombies wandering around.
So unless zed’s knocking at your door (and somehow immune to the cold), don’t bother bugging out. Stay home, hunker down, bundle up, cover the windows, and wait for spring.

Seriously, having a colostomy bag and trying to fight off the undead would totally suck. I guess… thanks (?) to Killer B for bringing up such an unpleasant topic.
Not what I like to think about, though the visual of “being gummed by a zed” is freaking hilarious.

Oh GOD could you imagine an infected zombie mall santa sliding down the chimney to get you in the middle of the night?

LOL. I already planned this out, the end of my walking stick will twist off leaving a knife, i’ll have one of those electric scooters stocked with supplies and whatnot, and I’ll upgrade it to travel at around 40mph max. Throw in the claymore on the wall for “decoration”, and I’m more or less set. Hop on the scooter, use the stick-kinfe as a lance while racing down the halls, get john (my elderly friend) to jump on the back and man the claymore, we’ll be whizzing down the corridors beheading/impaling zombies. Then we’ll burst out and escape into the distance. Note to self: when I have kids, give them lessons on survival.

I know what you mean McLovin, my family was ready to throw me out the window after my zombie speech. LOL. Actually StoneTree, bodies take much longer to decay in cold weather! If the apocalypse began in winter, they’d be better preserved! They could last as long as a few years! Especially because usually, the decay process is quickened be insects and maggots. But for them to even attempt at eating away at them or laying eggs in them, their targeted host has to be pretty immobile. And, as we all know, the basic premise of a zombie is “WALKING dead”.

Oh, and by the way, nice interrogation skills, Ronin.
3-15 INF on 13 Jan 2010 at 10:33 am #
In max brooks’ Zombie Survival Guide, which this site is leaning towards, bacteria, maggots and insects won’t touch a zombie. The book states that cold wheather would freeze them solid, but they would come back when thawed out.
jay on 13 Jan 2010 at 3:54 pm #
interrogation skills are you having a laugh my daughter could interrogate some one better than that S.M.H lame

Don’t be so smug, please, Jay.
@3-15 INF: And although that is a good book, some of the information in there is false and illogical. For the hundredth time, (I’ve had to say this to all of my friends) the main purpose of the book is to get people thinking about the apocalypse. Also, the book most likely wouldn’t know that, because there isn’t quite an abundance of zombies and zombie information yet. Although that is a very plausible possibility, so I wouldn’t let any of those possibilities go. Still a good proposal!

I was only mentioning the Zombie Survival Guide and the info according to that because ZAC Administrator already said that we’re talking about Max Brooks’ zombies.

Im kinda freaking out.. Just opened my eyes to all of this. What should you do, in a summary, if there is an apocalypse?
Ive heard that they can only ‘live’ for 2hours, but im not sure i believe it, Im thinking more along the lines of decapitating their head?
I’d rather not bring it up with my parents/family they already think im wierd but if there is a slight hint of it happening soon then i wish to be prepared especially having 3 younger brothers. Thanks

I too am concerned. No one seems to understand how important it is to be prepared in the event of an attack. Some people don’t even believe in zombies!!! Are they stupid?!!! Seriously – I am so glad there are like-minded fellows out there who are going to be all the more prepared for when the invasion happens. Brothers, join with me! I believe it is imperative to band together if we are to have any chance of survival. This is not like a simple ‘kill a vampire’ (or werewolf) scenario. I mean seriously…We are talking about Zombies…
Ciaran on 14 Feb 2010 at 2:08 am #
Valentine’s Day was engineered by inter-governmental forces as a ‘red-herring’ in order to fool the masses. They already are aware of the Zombie Invasion and today, February 14th has only served as a distraction. We have lost yet another day. Are you preparing your plan to protect yourself and loved ones against the Zombies?
ThatScoutKid on 05 Mar 2010 at 1:35 am #
@grace
well in an apocalypse (which is unlikely) i think your best bet would be to hunker down in a fortified position of you choice with your survival squad. which usually has you family in it. in an out break, which is much more likely, then your best bet would be to stay on the move, avoid highways and free ways . stick to offroading or biking if you can.and also remember if the is an outbreak or an apocalypse, other humans may be your biggest threat. this site and a few books have some great tips. dont expect anything(slow stupid zombies, for example) and start preparing now, not when half of your neighborhood is trying to eat you. oh and yes go for headshots.
if anyone has anything to add, i would appreciate it.
good luck people

yes I am scared of the living more than anything else like when ppl start noticing that you have all the guns… shoot them and lose respect from friends don’t and you surly would come out second best.
