When it comes to swords, there are six really good ones that I want to mention. The first, of course, is the legendary katana. A good katana (not a cheap stainless steel replica) can slice a zombie in half with one swing. An awesome weapon that has definitely earned its reputation! The second is the ninjato. Some people claim that the ninjato is mainly a stabbing weapon. I claim that those people have no idea what they’re talking about! I personally own a Hanwei Forge practical ninjato. Believe me when I say it is a CUTTING weapon, and a magnificent one at that! The 3rd is the kilij, a curved scimitar whose cutting power rivals the katana! The machete is a good, solid weapon. Relatively easy to obtain, and relatively easy use. Last are the Viking and Celtic longswords. The Viking longsword is a good, versatile sword, and the Celtic longsword was specifically made for taking heads. Many people like the claymore, but I think it’s too big and unwieldy. Yes, swords require skill. Yes, swords need to be sharpened. And yes, severed zombie heads can still bite you (though suggesting that the heads will roll after you is absurd). But at the same time, killing a zombie with blunt force is not as easy as it seems. Remember, it’s not enough deliver a sharp blow, or cause a concussion, or even fracture the skull. To kill zombie, you have to BREAK INTO the skull and destroy the brain. The human skull is incredibly hard. Breaking through will be easier said than done in general. In particular, I just don’t think a baseball bat is up to the challenge.

hy greg, yeah the kaze katana is supposed to be a beast. I considered getting one for a while, but desided that durability was more important than the marginally increased cutting power of the differentially treated blade on the kaze, so I got the tenchi. according to several dozen reviews theis thing can hold up to an ungodly amount of abuse and still cut like a straight razor. So far I’ve only done basic cuts on some bamboo, but those were incredibly easy considering that bamboo closely simulates human bone.

I have a bokken and i would take it over a bat or crowbar anyday. crowbar= heavy, unweldy
bat= thin neck makes it vunerable, and the head is to wide it spread the impact to a wider surface area
But my bokken is one solid piece, same width, and made to take a beating,plus u can still use it to push deadheads away,plus it does not demand the care, attention and skill necessary to wield and maintain a live sword.

About the katana. I have one that has a convex edge. Its like the edge of an axe. The difference is that it is razor sharp. It has more steel behind the edge so it won’t dull quickly. I think some people might now what it is but its called the Cheness Kaze Katana. Look It up, it will take a hell of a beating. Cold Steel Katanas are amazing to. If you wanna bludgeon use the back of the katana instead of the edge. Katanas are sold all over the internet but, you just have to find out what company is the best and not a peice of crap. (Though you still need to be skilled to use a katana. One drawback.)

Most katanas are not sharp . Most of the katanas on the market are cheap pieces of crap made from low quality steel that are sharpened on a metal grinder just enough to give the appearence that they have been sharpened .

ok, i looked into it and katanas are really really sharp. i had no idea. is still would not be my choice of weapon though.
1) ******i am not trained or skilled******
2) the killing blow would have to be either a) decapitaion (very good
option) or b) a chunk to the head. i would be afraid that the blade would get stuck in the skull
3) i would want a one handed weapon so i could open doors to scavenge and/or be able to flee with the weapon at the ready.
4) there is less chance of coming in contact with contaminated blood. is there a chance that a blunt weapon will draw blood? sure. but not even close to a Katana. reaching for me, bust a collar bone. chasing me, bust a knee cap. trying to bite me and i do not have the angle for a killing blow, bust a jaw. all this and NO BLOOD. with a katana you are going to be swimming in toxic bodily fluids. lastly on this, it is even possible to bash a skull with out breaking the skin. OH. the last move and possibly the most important, you can push the undead away from you.
my melee weapon of choice. a short handled mace. possible flanged. Final note. i think we have all underestimated how toxic and contagious these things are. i am guessing that most people who go up against a zombie in close quarters with out serious armor that can also act as a biosuit will buy it. they may win the battle but will end up infected. Ronald has the idea. (until it is time to scavenge)

Ya I agree I think tht ppl over looked the pickaxe or pichtfork because being able to stab through the skull it good I think that a fire axe is also good cuz it is out of all metal(kinda light) and there easialy found (hardwàre store)

One thing that I think that no one has brought up is the possibillity of using stun batons as a close range weapon . They are easy to conceal , don’t weigh much and you can still use it after the batteries run out . Plus the electrical discharge would likely still effect the zombies muscles which would leave you with the oppurtunity to bash its skull in after it has been stunned . And they are realitvely cheap costing anywhere from twenty to sixty dollars which is about the same price you would pay for a good bat or a cheap katana .

I say double handed axes or the fire axe or machette the more blunt andor cuting abililty is the big thing u gotta way the differences don’t matter wat ever u are comfert aboll the better as long as u stay alive
