Run For Your Lives: Training Opportunity
Run For Your Lives is a zombie-themed 5k/obstacle course starting in Baltimore on October 22nd that will allow participants to pit themselves against a zombie horde as they try to complete the course without “dying”, which sounds exactly like the beginning of a zombie movie where the fake zombies somehow turn into real zombies and actually try to eat the unknowing participants.
If you are anywhere near the Baltimore area and want a great training opportunity before the day the dead walk the earth, this event is for you.

Tough Mudder – 10 to 12 miles, hard, brutal competition
Run for you life – 5k fun run
Not a real comparison.

This looks like FUN!

True, but Tough Mudder is still fun even if you take it slowly, like I did the first couple times. This looks like a blast. Baltimore isn’t far, so if I’m free, I’ll check it out.

3.1 mile run? I’ll have to see if I can train up to run that far by then.

eh, kind of like a game of capture the flag on a really big playing field. you don’t have to be faster than the other team, just more agile.

Capture the flag paintball is great, and I can imagine doing a paintball zombie ‘sim’ with coloring on the zombies’ teeth (or in this case, mask) and nails, while you and your group work together to eliminate the zombies without being attacked. Paint/coloring = death.
Sorry, off topic, but varied the flag has be thinking about paintball.

Have you guys heard of urban adventure racing. I would think that this is pretty good training.
You compete as 2 person teams and basically they give you a map with checkpoints on it (you could imagine on Z-day these being places like: Hunting Store, Gravel Pit, Defensible position, etc.). You have to determine your route and orient with a provided map.
The shortest races are 4 hours, they can be upwards of 48 hours (the long ones are in the wilderness). There are usually multiple disciplines involved (running, biking, paddling and and climbing). This meant that We needed to come up with a plan and then execute.
The one I recently in Grand Rapids MI involved challenges that made you use your intellect (not very easy when you have been running and biking hard for 3 hours). It was 20 miles biking and about 6 miles running. We were pretty slow (3hr 50min) even when you factor in the 2 or 3 times we went the wrong direction or couldn’t find a checkpoint but we finished. There is no one chasing you but training always falls short of the real deal.
Tough mudder looks like fun and would certainly build your mental toughness more than anything. I think on Z-day the one to survive will be using their brain before any other part of their body (at least I hope this for my sake).
