Silencing the Undead

Reading many of the posts on this site  I have noticed that while many have chosen a firearm for their weapon of choice many have not considered that if they are forced to use it while fleeing the hordes of the undead that the report could blow whatever stealth advantage that they held.

Surprising only a few have brought up the subject of suppressors, more commonly, if incorrectly known as silencers. Continue Reading »

Using Sense of Smell Against the Undead to Save the Living

Using Sense of Smell Against the Undead to Save the Living

Recently I have been flipping through my copy of “The Walking Dead” and came across an interesting point which would be appropriate for debate and discussion here.  It gets at the very heart of the undead and their motivations. Can zombies be fooled by using their sense of smell against them? Continue Reading »

The Bang Theory: Explosives, Force Multiplier or Dinner Bell

grenades.jpg

Using explosives against the undead has been brought up on a number of occasions. Several times among a group of fellow zombie hunters I have discussed the possible use of such weapons and whether or not they would be effective, or just ringing the dinner bell.On the whole the conclusions that have been reached in these BS session over beer, pool, and munchies, is that for the most part explosives are more likely a liability than a useful weapon. In most cases. Continue Reading »

Five Things to Consider When Preparing Your Zombie Defense Base

Five Things to Consider When Preparing Your Zombie Defense Base

In warfare it has often been said that it is best to make the enemy fight your fight. One old adage is that it takes ten attackers to defeat a single defender, and when the hordes of the undead walk this will be as true as ever.

Though the idea of having the undead treading on your very doorstep may not seem appealing, it is many times better than having them feast on your entrails. However, to truly allow you and those who hold up with you a fighting chance, you must do more than simply lock the door, shut the windows, and stand on the roof waving a burning torch, there will be much to be done to prepare a defense that will allow you to defeat the enemy upon your door step. 4 Reasons Why Defense is Better than Offense in a Zombie Attack

The Best Zombie Defense

Some say that the best offense is a good defense.  We tend to agree, especially when speaking of an undead outbreak.

Many times during a debate regarding the proper zombie defense tactic and plan, someone will make mention that you should go on the offensive and not sit back, waiting on the undead to find their way to your location.  While many believe (myself included) that the zombies will be slow and clumsy, it would be foolish to base all of your plans around this as it has yet to be proven.  With that said, you should not rely on slow and clumsy zombies thinking you can turn yourself into Rambo, instantly going on the offensive, shredding all of the undead that comes your way.  Be ready for fast zombies.  Continue Reading »

The Top 3 Non-Projectile Weapons for Zombie Defense

Zombie Defense - Axe, Edged Weapons

In the fight against the undead, weapons born in the modern era will only have a small hand in the war. To triumph, we will have to take a page from our ancestors who have fought the undead centuries and generations before us. Not discounting the value of a good firearm, there are other weapons commonly available that can be used against the coming tides of death.

Handgun Choices for Close Range Zombie Defense

Close range zombie defense

In movies and games that populate the lives of many we see the hero standing up as the undead close in around him. First he empties his long gun, if he even has one, and as the enemy closes in all around he draws his pistol. Depending on the movie or game it is often a revolver, large and powerful the symbol of American gun perfection, the soul of the old west. He brings up his gun and fires till they are all dead. In real life he pulls the trigger six times, maybe hitting half that number of zombies and maybe killing one, and as he tried desperately to reload dropping the cartridges because his hands shake with fear and adrenaline he is over whelmed and consumed.  Did he have the right weapon for close range zombie defense?
